Strategies, theories, ideas, cultures, lifestyles, tips, explanations, actions… Exploring and sharing what we can do to live healthy, happy, and balanced lives here and now, in a world out of balance. What is health? I hope to give a good idea of what it can be, what it includes, and ways to achieve it. As a basic overview of what health and fitness means to me, check out this great starting point by the World Health Organization:

Health is much more than health care. Topics covered here include preventative health and fitness, nutrition, medicine, exercise, economics, policies, health care, environment, clean water, clean air, neuromuscular efficiency, ambidexterity, mental commons, advocacy, social networking . . . Please enjoy the information collected here and feel free to add any comments, suggestions or leads to related information.

Experimenting with blogs and all things Cyberian in the service of learning

As a returning (nontraditional) student, almost starting from scratch, I began attending my local community college at circa 36 years, have since transferred to complete my formal education, and am working in the field of my studies. I received an Associates in Human Services, a Bachelor of Social Work, and a Master of Social Work and am currently studying for licensure.

I began this blog while majoring in Exercise Science and have since expanded its scope to include the health of the whole person to reflect my past and present studies and interests. I post articles and sources that relate to the subjects I am researching. It has become a sort of bibliography or an aggregate of sources and things that I come across and think useful or interesting while researching.

Keeping a blog for learning purposes began as a trick of sorts. While studying, I had noticed that I spent a lot of time on the computer. Inevitably I would end up surfing the net to avoid my studies. I made a deal with myself to stick to surfing within the lines of whatever I was studying at the time.

That way I could at the very least fell like I was being productive. This approach worked for me. I think of this process as a Cyberian brainstorming of sorts. So after letting loose and collecting all kinds of random material on my research topics, whatever catches my interest, I post the good finds to my blog so that I can remember them and find them easily if I need to. It is flattering to see that other people find the materials and blog of interest since it wasn’t intended for others in the beginning.

Now that I see that others are interested, I am inclined to post more with the intent to share the information that I find. Please feel free to comment and begin discussions on any post you find of interest. Along with the above use of blogging as an aid in learning, I want to explore other uses for blogging along with any other online format that can be used to aid and further learning, and the sharing of information.

Currently I am exploring the use of social media as a means of widening the dialog on health and balance. Networking, brainstorming, multimedia, exploration of learning methods and models are some of the things I will include as this blog continues to unfold.
